With your civic integration diploma you show that you're sufficiently integrated — this is usually one of the requirements for later applying for Dutch nationality (naturalization). Civic integration is therefore often a first step toward a Dutch passport.
What is naturalization?
Naturalization is the procedure for applying for Dutch nationality. Besides civic integration, other requirements also apply, such as a valid residence permit and a sufficient number of years of residence in the Netherlands.
What role does civic integration play?
For naturalization you usually need to show that you're integrated, for example with your civic integration diploma or another recognized language and society diploma at the required level.
Please note
The exact requirements for naturalization (language level, years of residence, costs) can change. Always check the current requirements with the IND before submitting an application.
Where do I apply for naturalization?
The application for naturalization runs through the Immigration and Naturalisation Service (IND), not through DUO or Mijn Inburgering.
