About Inburgeringwijzer
What is Inburgeringwijzer?
Inburgeringwijzer.nl is an independent information site about civic integration (inburgering) in the Netherlands. We explain the integration process in plain language — for people going through it themselves and for those helping them, such as support workers, volunteers, or municipalities.
The official sources (inburgeren.nl, DUO, rijksoverheid.nl) are authoritative but can be difficult to navigate. We translate that information into clear language without sacrificing accuracy. We are not part of the Dutch government and make no decisions about integration obligations, exams, or residence status.
The editorial team
The content on this site is compiled and reviewed by the Inburgering Editorial Team. Our team has closely followed Dutch integration policy since the Civic Integration Act 2021 (Wi2021) came into force on 1 January 2022. We tracked the full transition from the old law (Wi2013) to Wi2021: the introduction of the Personal Integration and Participation Plan (PIP), the three learning routes, the removal of the self-study route, and changes to the fine rules for asylum status holders.
We rely exclusively on primary sources — official legislation (Staatsblad), DUO documentation, rijksoverheid.nl, and rulings from the Council of State — and show the date each page was last checked. A deliberate policy: we do not speculate about rules that are not yet final.
When significant policy changes occur — such as new extension grounds, court rulings on fines, or changes to exam levels — we publish a news update and revise the affected pages. The news section provides an overview of recent developments.
Our approach and sources
- Every content page lists its primary sources at the bottom as clickable chips.
- We review pages regularly and update the "last checked" date accordingly.
- Where information is uncertain or subject to frequent change, we say so explicitly.
- We always link to the official source for binding or personal decisions.
Commercial links and advertising
This site is partly funded through advertising (Google AdSense) and possibly affiliate links to course providers or study materials. Commercial blocks are always clearly labelled as "Advertisement" or "Recommended (commercial link)". They have no influence on our editorial choices — see theaffiliate disclosure for more detail.
